The problem

The English language is a beautiful thing, capable of expressing precise thoughts and subtle meanings. But many people have problems with its written form. The complex rules of spelling, punctuation and grammar are confusing and often illogical, even to those who can speak English fluently.

If you get it wrong then you may find it difficult to get your message across, as readers struggle to understand what you were trying to communicate.

And if you break any of those petty rules, other people will judge you for it. They may think that you are unintelligent, or just careless with details. Students will lose marks. Businesses will lose investors and customers.

So it is important to get these things right.

The enemy

Automated spellcheckers and grammar checkers, such as those built in to your word processing software, are better than they used to be. But they can still take a difficult situation and make it worse.

You have to know which options to set on or off, which rules you can ignore and which you can’t. They often highlight something as an error when it isn’t. They are also blind to certain types of mistakes, which they fail to spot. And when they do alert you to a genuine error, they often don’t tell you how to fix it.

So while these software tools can be helpful, you still need a human being with the skills to spot mistakes and the knowledge of how to fix them.

Maybe you lack these abilities yourself, or maybe you want a second opinion or simply have better things to do with your time.

That’s where a professional proofreading service can help you.

The solution

A professional proofreading service such as Proofreading Preston can offer a solution to your problems. We will read your document for you, noting errors and suggesting corrections.

As well as checking your spelling, punctuation and grammar, we will also make sure that your writing style is consistent, and highlight any clichés or any repetitive or unnecessary phrases. This will make your words easy to read, and your message easy to understand.

Other companies may offer additional services to these, so it is important that we state what Proofreading Preston is not. We are not essay writers, editors, typesetters, designers or indexers. We won’t write your essay for you, check your facts, advise you on structure and layout, or compile an index for you. If you need these services then you will have to look elsewhere.

Proofreading Preston only offers the services that we can provide with confidence in our ability to deliver. And that is why our prices are lower than many other similar organisations.

The process

  1. Your document needs to be in the form of a MS Word document.
  2. Compose an email to info@proofreadingpreston.co.uk with the document file added as an attachment. If the file is too large to attach to an email then contact us to get details on how to send it to us.
  3. If there is anything else we need to know then include this in the email.
If there is a particular style guide you want us to follow then send us details, an attachment or a link to a website. If you are a student then we will need to know which referencing style is approved by your school or department. And if there is a deadline by which you need the document returned, be sure to let us know that too.
  4. Double check that you have attached the correct file and send the email to us at info@proofreadingpreston.co.uk
  5. We will send you an email in reply to acknowledge receipt of your document. This email will include the price of our service and an estimated time for completion.
  6. When we have finished checking your document, we will send a second email containing an invoice and instructions on how to pay securely via PayPal.
  7. As soon as we receive notice that the invoice has been paid, we will send you a third email containing the corrected document.
  8. If you have any questions or concerns then you can contact us at any time during this process (or afterwards) and we will do our best to help you.

For our standard proofreading service, we charge £8 per 1000 words, with a minimum of £7 per document.

The word count is that of the original document that you send to us, not the corrected version that we send to you.

The exact calculation that we use is as follows: we take the total number of words, divide this by 1000, multiply the result by £8, and then knock off any pence to round down to the nearest pound, with a minimum of £7 per document.

How does this work out in practice?
Under 1000 words = £7
1000 to 1124 words = £8
1125 to 1249 words = £9
1250 to 1374 words = £10
1375 to 1499 words = £11
1500 to 1624 words = £12
1625 to 1749 words = £13
1750 to 1874 words = £14
1875 to 1999 words = £15
2000 to 2125 words = £16

Priority Service

We will proofread documents in the order we receive them. If you would like to jump the queue, add the word PRIORITY to the subject line of your email. Documents submitted in this way will be processed before any non-priority documents currently in the queue. The cost for this priority proofreading service is double that of the standard proofreading service – £16 per 1000 words, with a minimum of £14 per document.

Let Us Help You

If you are unhappy with the service you receive then please contact us as soon as possible, and we will do our best to correct any mistakes that we have made.

If we are unable to satisfy your concerns within 30 days of the invoice date then let us know and we will issue a full refund.

Yes, that’s right. We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
